The exhibition brings together work by more than 140 artists who responded to our first open call, each approaching, directly or indirectly, the increasingly distant image of America and the ways we continue to reproduce and preserve it.
From the exhibition text:
“We continue to cling to an America that increasingly resembles a hundred-year-old postcard more than the country itself. A mythology so distant from contemporary reality that it survives only as nostalgia. We mourn landscapes we have already replaced, comforting ourselves with representations while the originals disappear beneath the infrastructure built to preserve those same idealized images forever.
This exhibition asks artists to work from inside that realization.
