Ruminating over current events, Kelly Hartigan Goldstein creates detailed contemplative newspaper collages merging the lens of individual experience with bigger societal conversations. News happens, observations provoke insight and a composition is revealed. Using only a newspaper and a moment from a specific day, she paints discourse with cut paper and the weight of the reported word. Primed to find meaning, she meticulously puzzles through the available language, reading the paper in an epic word search of typography and tonal values. A written image emerges from found phrases, fonts, and photographs as she attempts to make sense of the relentless news cycle of opposing views in her everyday life.
